The Position

JSY Legal is a boutique firm seeking a junior lawyer to join its team.  JSY Legal predominantly practises in the areas of Criminal Law, Family Law, and Litigation.

The position is for a full-time role reporting directly to the firm’s directors with an initial probationary period.  The role is suitable for a restricted legal practitioner that has recently been admitted to the profession or a junior lawyer new to the areas in which we practice.

About the Role

The duties of the position will include:

· drafting legal correspondence to clients and opponents;

· drafting Court documents;

· with supervision, meeting and liaising with, taking instructions from, and assisting with providing legal advice to clients;

· managing files and assisting senior lawyers with client matters;

· shadowing senior lawyers in Court;

· appearing in Court on simple matters; and

· conducting legal research and drafting memoranda.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

· completion of either a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree;

· completion of an approved practical legal training course;

· having been admitted to the legal profession in Western Australia; and

· the right to work in Australia on a full-time basis.

· excellent written and oral communication skills;

· good legal drafting and research skills;

· good time management and organisational skills;

· ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines;

· good work ethic;

· attention to detail; and

· relevant extracurricular activities.

Remuneration: $70,000 to $85,000 p.a. + Super (depending on experience)
