When family law meets the criminal justice system, the stakes are at their highest. Shana is one of the Legal Practitioner Directors of JSY Legal and leads the practice with a unique skillset: she is equally adept in the complexities of Family Law as she is in the rigors of Criminal Law.
Admitted in 2016 following her studies at the University of Western Australia (LLB/Commerce), Shana is admitted in the Supreme Court of WA and the High Court of Australia. She is a familiar advocate in the Magistrates Court and the Family Court of Western Australia, and has also appeared in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and conducted trials in the District and Children's Courts.
Shana’s practice is defined by her ability to manage the crossover between Family Law and Criminal Law. She provides clients with a single point of contact for matters involving family violence, physical and emotional harm to children, and coercive control. By handling both Restraining Order proceedings and the associated Family Law disputes, Shana offers a holistic strategy that protects her clients’ rights and safety without the inefficiency of juggling multiple legal representatives.
Clients value Shana for her pragmatic advice. She understands that legal disputes are often an unwelcome disruption to life, and she strives to achieve the most effective outcomes through a collaborative approach whenever possible.
Coming from an immigrant background herself, Shana possesses a unique sensitivity to the cultural dynamics prevalent in Asian families. Conversant in Mandarin and Cantonese, she is able to bridge the gap for clients who feel that the complexities of their family structure or cultural context are often misunderstood by the legal system. Shana is member of the Legal Aid WA panels for Criminal, Family, and Restraining Order matters, driven by her core belief in access to justice for all.
Shana is a committee member of the Criminal Lawyers Association of Western Australia (CLAWA), a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia (FLPAWA) and an adjunct lecturer with the College of Law WA.
